Maryland State Fairgrounds, Timonium MD
I was just planning to go to the December 12th show and December 18th. The track is in a Dairy Barn on the fairgrounds. It is a flat track with a concrete surface and a 1/20th of a mile oblong oval. The track was sold out both nights, this is the 38th year that these races took place. The Venue is AMA Motorcycles. With 150 bikes present in 15 classes one gets a full night of racing for a $12 admission price. The Cockneysville Optimist Club promotes the shows so you know the admission makes good things happen. They announced the building was rented for next year. The gentleman on the #29 bike was 53 years old and raced in all the shows over the 38 year tenure. Gates open at 3 PM, Warmups at 5 PM. Time trails start at 6 PM and the heats start at 7 PM. Keeping the show going is a major priority as the shows were over at 10 PM and 9:30 PM. Adhere to these times since everything starts promptly. Timonium is 20 miles from Baltimore so it takes me 2 hrs to get home. Competition is close and some nasty spills took place. A unbelievable fact is during the evening we had quite a few 3 wide passing taking place,. I will definately go back next year. I enjoyed these shows better than Atlantic City's indoor show. Food is no problem as an Applebee's and Jason's Deli is next to the fairgrounds and the track food is not typical track food. It is a bit pricey , but delicious. Highlights of both nights was Ryan Henderson, a paraplegic on a special built bike. The average lap is approx. 7 seconds. Supported by family members they all show up to help Ryan.. Good job from an unexpected rider. My only disappointment for the night is that Santa Clause did not make an appearance. This year a kids race was added to the program where kids race around the track on Foot. Great event for the kids.I assisted Frank Fabricius from F3 Videos who films all the Division 6 and 7 AMA events. You can google his website or contact him at 920 Texter Mountain Road, Robesonia Pa. 19551. Give him a call at 610-589-5189 (Home) or 610-507-7645 (cell). The DVD comes in a plastic case with an attractive cover. He will be glad to hook you up with a DVD.
As i said this was a fantastic 2 nights of racing and I was in an element where the riders names didn't mean a thing to me since I didn't know any of them. The Competition was intense from the PeeWee class to the Pro Class. Also during the summer Timonium has races on a small outdoor Horse track.. Go to the AMA Website to get the 2011 schedule. You won't be dissapointed.

Kutztown Fairgrounds Speedway, Kutztown, Pa.
Pre Season Report
News from the Fairgrounds Speedway is that for 2011 Barry Angstadt will be the new announcer. Good Luck to Brett Dayo as he will work at Big Diamond Speedway in 2011. I personally enjoyed listening to Brett over the years that he has been there. Brett is a first class announcer. A thumbnail of the season is as follows. Racing starts on May 11th and goes till June 22. The Pa German Festival makes the speedway dark on June 29 and July 6th. Racing resumes on July 13th and goes till August 17th. The standard divisions will be present each evening, those being the wingless 600's, Winged 270's, and the Allstar slingshots. A new class is on the agenda for the summer and that is the Xcel Sportsman Modifieds. They are probably like the Xcel 600 Modifieds , but with a smaller Engine..
Special evenings during the summer are The Goldie Meitzler Memorial on May 11th. Mike O'Pake Memorial race on May 25th, June 15th will bring the wingless 600 Micro Pro Series hopefully led by Heath Hehnly. The season ends with the Fair shows with two nights on the 2011 agenda. Tuesday August 16th will feature the wingless 600's and the Winged 270's with all their qualifying events. The Allstar Slingshots will have a complete show. On August 17th the wingless 600's and Winged 270's will compete in their alphabet Mains and Features. The Young Guns will also have a complete show.
I can't wait for the Kutztown season to begin as it looks like a great season. Good Luck Barry Angstadt and to the Excel Sportsman Modifieds. May Kerry Meitzler have a dry summer and have all his races for the summer. If you have never seen the wingless 600's at Kutztown you don't know what you have been missing.

2011 Phillipsburg Mall Show
Very shortly the Phillipsburg Mall Race Car show will take place. I do not have any dates , but my neighbor, Mike, says it is very worthwhile going to. With a cross section of race cars on display featuring the big name drivers and the not big name drivers. I have never been there, but I'm looking forward to going this year. That's coming from a person who stopped going to Mall Shows so he can get an off season to racing. The show is run by the Pados Brothers. For More information watch Gasoline Alley with the Pados Brothers on WALN on Monday Nights from 6 PM to 8 PM. See link on the Hamlin page of this website and watch the show on your computer. Gasoline Alley is also a worthwhile endevor as the guests include some of the hottest drivers on the circuit, and my favorite, the Legends of Racing, those retired from the sport. And if your Lucky you may tune in when Kutztown announcer Barry Angstadt is a guest. The show is from March 6-12th. Lineup of guests include Gerald Chamberlain, Billy Wimble, Freddy Adam, Tom Hager, Ronnie Dunstan, Sammy Beavers Richie Smith, and to many more to mention. Sorry that I can't make the opening Sunday , I will be making Fastnacht Doughnuts at the Trexlertown Fire Company for 12 hours.

Oreville Kart Track
Pre Season Report
Oreville Kart Track will open April 10th and run races every Sunday until October 9th. Starting times are as follows: Warm ups noon, Heat races at 1:30 PM and features at 2:30 PM. The track will be dark on the three holiday weekends. On a typical afternoon, Oreville has approx 15 classes running. The track is a 1/5 mile road course with an asphalt surface. The Blue Clone class is the biggest class with approx 16 Karts. This class will have at least 4 new Karters this year brining their number to 20. My nephew , Nick Boyd , is not included in that number and will not compete until Slippery Rock University is out for the summer. Oreville is the only track in the country who runs Vintage Karts (100cc, 125cc, Sidewinders, and Exhibition) classes on a weekly basis. The track is on Old Topton Road near Topton, Pa. To get there take Route 222 to Maxatawny and turn at the Fireworks trailer on Old Topton Road for about a mile and a half down the windy road. If you have never been to Oreville, take in a Sunday, and find out why Oreville is Pa. Best kept Secret. The price of admission is FREE, and that can't be beat. On a hot day, park along the fence, turn on the AC for comfort, and enjoy the racing.

Shows to watch for are " Spring into Summer" weekend June 2 & 3rd. Micro Mountain Nationals (9/10), and Slingshot Nationals(9/17).Rumor has it that Danny Becsc will step up to the Allstar Slingshots. This means that my buddy, Chris Kurtz is in line to be the man to beat for the championship.Paul Ennes is a good bet to win the Super Slingers, although Dale Kober and Tom Arntz will have something to say about that.Nunzi Allegrucci is looking to take back his 270cc championship which he lost to Gene Burd. Bobby Butler will try to repeat his championship although Brett Michalski, Stan Tykarski and Shannon Smith will try for the upset. Shannon Smith and John Bockhorn are ready to compete in the Allstar Slingshots while battling Buccafusca. No need to bring a lunch, The food at Hamlin is on par with restaurant food and reasonable. Linda's Speedway
Pre season Report
The rumor mill has the track with a new layer of clay. Things for certain, The season starts with the Steve Buch Memorial on April 1st and finishes with the National Open on Oct 15th. Good news is the Xcel 600 Modifieds have approx 20 shows which is good, they always have a good car count. Bad news is that on 4 evenings we are without the 600cc Micros. Those could be long evenings. The Chargers will run approx. half the shows. I love the Wms Grove Old Timers and in September The Garden State Old Timers will be here. Eventually our restored Richie Evans 1973 short track Pinto will be on display. My brother Tom; my nephew, Nick; and myself hope it will be ready for next year.Glad to see the Keystone Legend Cars with their monthly slot in the schedule. Legend cars always remind me when I was a kid and Modified cars were beautiful and not ugly as they are today. The track has a March practice show and if it is 75+ degrees I will be there. I hate cold events and don't go unless it's a regular show. Look on You Tube for the Linda's 600cc Micro Sprints. Look for BarBoy7567.
The 2011 Championship hunt. Mike Rutherford ( if he runs the Kaylor #5L regularly) and Ross Perchak can give the Pete and Nick Skias a run for their money. Terry Schaeffer was the hottest car the last month of the season last year in the 600's and Ryan Wilson will have to be at his best to repeat. Also, I heard a rumor that Jimmy Brookens will run Linda's regularly, Hope its true. Krautwald looks to repeat in the 125cc micros. Ian Detweiler is running Sprints so the 600 Mod Class is wide open. Look for the Mady Brothers Eric Whitby, and T Bartik to take that championship.Watch for Justin Thompson, Bob Snyder and Brad Arnold to make a run for the Slinger Trophy. In the chargers four names come to mind... Jasen Geesaman, Nick Ruhl, and the Smith Brothers (without Beards); Chris and Harold. See you at the races.

Phillipsburg Mall Show
I took in my first Phillipsburg Mall show , Friday night edition, and was really pleased with the event. I bought a $4 program and had all the top stars sign it. Also, I conversed with racers I knew from the past, and I made some new acquaintance. My DIRT Tracking Heros program is now adorned with autographs from Gerald Chamberlain, Reds Coffin, Freddy Adam, Billy Wimble, Tom Hager, Fuzzy Van Horn and Bobby Braxton to name a Few. It was good to see Ronnie Dunstan, who I grew up with. His move to Florida has him looking really Good. In the year I haven't seen him he has come a long way. Alway good to see Steve Pados as he took control of the program. There was a nice mix of race cars. The asphalt #61 car with "Bell" on it was the nicest to me. It was also distinctive in shape. Nicest Paint job probably John Willman's Modified, pretty Classy Quick to catch my eye was the Van May Sprint Car. In my career as a still photographer and Videographer I probably have more air time of that car than any other, no one else ever came close.Great to see the vintage cars out in force. I wonder if that Hoop Shaible car is the one he drove in to a pile of concrete bags at Nazareth standing on the Running Board. Enjoyed the Harmony Speedway car , has many of good memories on it. Doug Snyder who will spend time at all three of my tracks, Nice job on your car Lots of Frankie Schneider cars. Where's Frankie?
Good to see the Dorney Park cars , George Wambold, Earney #50, and the Ardhoffer #71.Love the "Sprit of Nazareth" champ car, its pristine. Xcel Modifieds were well represented. Loved the Vote Yetter car, I m not in your area, but I hope some one that is will give you there vote. Loved seeing Bing Mets and will tell you he is Racing a Keystone Legend Car and will be at Linda's Speedway 7 times this year starting on April 22. Good Luck Bing. Hamlin should have had more cars, Nice to see the Paujlas #15. and the Greg Stevens car. The oddest pace was good to see, that being the Flemington Pace car. Brings back good memories. I'm ending this report by saying, " I will join Steve Pados in the House at Hamlin opening night.

If you couldn't fine time to go you missed a great event. If John Lane decides to have a Second Reunion watch here for news of the event. If you ran Flemington you should have been there. Kutztown Fairgrounds Mid Season Report
June 23, 2011
The Xcel Sportsman is a welcome addition to the racing card. It looks like Matt Carmine is the man to beat as he has 3 feature wins. Scott Washburn , racing on a tight budget, has been more competitive than ever. Doug Borger is an other driver to watch. It looks like Matt Carmine will be the 2011 Point Champion. Brett Beiber looks like a sure bet to win the slingshot championship this year.Simon Egan started hot and cooled while Michael Glass started cold and was warming up at break. Gary Heiber, consistent each week is in the hunt. The 270 micros looks like it will come down to a battle between Richie Hartman and Ross Perchak. This division is to close to call. A sure thing is Harlee Schaffer being the most improved driver this year in the class. Looking for a spoiler, try Darin Bartholomew. In the 600's it looks like the Hartman brothers won the first half of the season.Brett Schoienly has been competitive considering he is one of the older drivers competing. Brett Michalski must have more consistent finishes to rise to the top. The champion of the 600 Micro class will be related to Newt Hartman , himself a many time champion at Flemington. The race competition has been well worth the price of admission. Why pay more when you can see the Kutztown show for $8.
Oreville Kart Track Mid Season Report
July 1, 2011
After a great beginning featuring 60-65 drivers per week the last month has dropped to approx 40. I can't figure out if it is the overcast weather or the economy keeping karts away. Big winners so far are Kyle Smith, Ernie Dengler, Kent Windom, Mike Mammarella, Sheldon Didinger, Barry Greenzweig, Alex Greenzweig, and Bob Hermansader.Hopefully more Karts will show up and the excitement will get better. My Brother and my Kart will appear in the second half with my nephew , Nick, at the wheel. The Box Stock clone class has dropped from 16 to 5 competing Karts. Second Half of the season can only get better. The price of admission is FREE and there is always a breeze in the spectator area. This track is easy to find as it is halfway between Allentown and Kutztown of Route 222 at Old Topton RD
Linda's Speedway Mid Season Report
July 7, 2011
Josh Michael has a short 5 point lead in the Charger division at the half way point over Eric Hollenbach, a former Pro Stock champion. With 26 cars competing this class always has cars. A driver who could be the spoiler is Nic Ruhl who only raced one race and looked good. Ryan ankle has the Xcel Modified point lead over 46 competitors. Kunkle leads by 30 points over Jeromy Guistwite, and a 100 point lead over Eric Whitby. Watch Whitby in the second half. The 125cc micro division is hurting this year with only 11 competitors total this year. This isn't even a half of a field. Evan Krautwald has a 5 point lead over Zoe Mattis. Brett Heiber is leading the Slingshots by 5 points over Matt Miller. Only 23 slingers have competed so far this year. Could this be the last year for these classes since they don't carry their own weight. Brian Carber has a substantial lead in the 600cc's. At this point if nothing happens the championship should be his. Jesse Maurer has a 200 point lead in the 270's over Ed Kenderdine. This could be a race right up to the National Open. The dark horse is Pete Skias who has been on fire this last month. This will be a good 2nd half of the season, but I can't wait till the National Open, which is a season within itself. Another dark horse in every is Mother Nature. Every rainout will favor the point leader.
Hamlin Speedway Mid Season Report
July 14, 2011
Simon Egan is cooling down and Danny Buccafusca is heating up. The Allstar Slingshots class is wide open at this point. While Simon Egan looked like a sure bet, now I don't know. There are to many good slingers to make the call. All of a sudden 2010 National Champion Shannon Smith is catching fire and getting good finishes. Jonathan Hull and Brett Michalski are the favorites in the wingless 600 class. Up to now Hull has been the most consistant. From where I sit Michalski looks to have the fastest car. Remember sometimes you must go slow to go fast. This is by far the class with the most participants. In the 270 Micro Sprints it looks like Robbie Watson is the man to beat. The car count is down and to many drivers take weeks off. Every week with a low car count is in Robbie Watson's favor. Look for him to be a threat to take the championship. Justin Brewster has won over half the wingless 600 Rookie features so far. Also, Justin is beating large fields to accomplish this feat. Averaging approx 20 cars a week he will be the point champion. Dylan Martin has the most wins, Chris Kurtz has passed the most cars. Kurtz makes this class interesting by coming from the rear to finish up front. But it looks like Martin will be the champ. First year driver Wes Hern looks like a sure bet to be Champion. He has the most Super Slinger feature wins up to now. Aaron Henneforth looks like he could be in the spoiler role as he has a lot of top finishes but not to many wins. Finally the 270 Rookie micros, this class is wide open since nobody stands out. Mackenzie Harper and Grady Johnson look to have the fastest cars.

Coventry Mall on Route 100 outside of Pottstown ,Pa . Will have its annual Race Car shown March 2, to March 4th. I know Pete Knappenberger is involved. I have not been to this show in recent years so I can't tell you anything about the show. I will make an attempt to get there. My other Mall shows this year will be the Reading Reunion and The Phillipsburg Dirt Car Show. Those are probably the only shows I will attend unless one opens up close to home.
